Auchterawe Country House

You are offered a warm, friendly, family welcome at Auchterawe Country House. A converted former Scottish Farmhouse, it is an ideal base from which to tour the Highlands of Scotland. There are many hill, mountain tracks and riverside walks just outside the door. From your bedroom window, or in the conservatory, you can admire views of the Great Glen Mountain Range. Relax in the Guest lounge in front of the log fire or play a game of pool. Built around 1870, this former Scottish Farmhouse has had many different uses in the past. It was once used as a farmhouse, then Forestry Offices and more recently as a summer school for a school from the Borders of Scotland. The building still retains many of its original features.

From a82 North Before reaching the village of Fort Augustus, turn right at The Inchnacardoch Hotel sign posted for Auchterawe. Take next right, sign posted to Auchterawe and continue along for approx 400m where the road turns slightly to left, again sign for Auchterawe, continue along this road past Forestry Commission Offices for approx 2miles where you will see sign for 'Auchterawe Country House'. From a82 South upon reaching the village continue along a82 where you will see Gulf petrol station on left. Continue pass tourist car park and take next left up Bunoich Brae (short steep hill). Continue for 400 metres until you come to a t junction sign posted to Auchterawe. Continue along this road for approx 400m where road turns slightly to left (sign for Auchterawe)continue along this road past Forestry Commission Office for approx 2miles where you will see the sign for 'Auchterawe Country House'

"This hotel is near Loch Ness with wonderful views of the mountains. It is near Fort Augustus for meals and is very peaceful. However, I do not think it lived up to our expectations and is overpriced for what it provides. It has cut too many corners. eg - no locks on bedroom doors, no bathmats, not enough towels, no shelf in bathroom or shower, no hooks behind doors, no hot water one morning. Notices everywhere telling you to switch off lights. All these things make for an uncomfortable time. It also does not tell you on the website that you have to pay for the pool table."

The family room is only suitable for 2 adults and 2 children. Large attractive en suite room with pine-framed double bed and pine bunk beds, with matching accessories. The room has views of the Great Glen mountain range from your bedroom window.

This attractive room has 2 pine-framed single beds with matching pine accessories. There are spectacular views of the Great Glen mountain range. It shares a shower room with another twin room on the same floor, but that room is generally only occupied during the busy season. Booking both twin rooms would be ideal for families with older children, or for 2 couples. This room has sloping ceilings so is not suitable for very tall people. It may also be unsuitable for those with restricted mobility, as it is on the 2nd floor.

4-star accommodation with double and twin bedrooms. Both rooms have pine-framed beds with matching accessories, exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings. The lounge also has a stone fireplace, beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. Use of private fully fitted kitchen can also be available.
