Set in 250 acres of beautiful parkland and overlooking the scenic Dee estuary across to the hills of North Wales, Hillbark’s character appearance hides a fascinating history. The house was originally built in 1891 (on Bidston Hill in Birkenhead) for the soap manufacturer Robert William Hudson. Hillbark was sold in 1921 to Sir Ernest Royden and in 1928 was moved to its present site, brick by brick, finally being completed in 1931. The house contains a variety of interesting features: the Great Hall has a 1527 Jacobean fireplace from Sir Walter Raleigh’s house, a set of William Morris stained glass windows and a pair of 13th century church screen doors; the library was originally in a stately home in Gloucestershire; and the Yellow Room restaurant contains a magnificent 1795 Robert Adam fire surround.

How to find us From the M6: - leave M6 at Junction 20 towards Chester on M56 - leave M56 at Junction 15 towards Birkenhead - leave M53 at Junction 3 towards Arrowe Park Hospital on A552 - at the new road junction bear to the right on A551 - pass hospital, then turn left into Arrowe Brook Road - at dip turn left into Arrowe Brook Lane - at roundabout go straight on, on Hillbark Road - after half a mile turn sharp left through Royden Park gateway. Hillbark is at the end of the driveway. From Liverpool: - take Kingsway Tunnel under River Mersey - after toll booths take M53 - leave M53 at Junction 2 - at roundabout go straight on, on A5027 - at next roundabout turn right on B5139 towards Frankby - at Frankby village turn left before cemetery gates into Hillbark Road - after Farmers’ Arms pub bear right through Royden Park gateway. Hillbark is at the end of the driveway. From Chester: - take A540 towards Heswall - continue on through Thurstaston - at roundabout turn right on B5140 - at T-junction opposite Farmers’ Arms pub turn right - bear right through Royden Park gateway. Hillbark is at the end of the driveway.
